Summary:

The story starts off with the miller's daughter, Meredith, who gets into trouble when her deceitful father makes up a story that she can spin straw into gold. The king ends up locking her up in a room and orders her to spin straw into gold or she'll die. Lucky for her, Rumpelstiltskin pops up in her room and helps her out. After a few days of helping her out, the king's proposition of her becoming his wife causes her, along with Rumpelstiltskin, to escape the room, get married and have a daughter together. Years later, Rumpelstiltskin's daughter eventually gets caught by the king, just like her mother, when rumors spread around that she can spin straw into gold. Rumpelstiltskin's daughter uses her cleverness to trick the king into doing acts of kindness around the troubled town (the king believing he will get gold out of the acts). She ends up making the townspeople happy, prosperous and made the king so well liked that the he eventually forgets about the gold and his greediness. She ends up becoming prime minister of the town and we finally learn her name, Hope!

Evaluation and Comments:

Rumpelstiltskin's Daughter is a beautiful book that will leave you happy and hopeful. In a twist of the traditional tale, we see what happens when instead of the miller's daughter making a deal with Rumpelstiltskin and marrying the king, she ends up marrying and having a child with Rumpelstiltskin instead! The daughter is caring and her cleverness gets her out of trouble, helps the townspeople, and makes the king a much better person.

This is a wonderful book for all ages to teach students about women empowerment and the importance of not letting greed overtake you. With the themes of the book, it's a great way for both younger and older students to start class discussions and let them talk about their overall thoughts and feelings over greed and the importance of doing what's right!

In conclusion, Rumpelstiltskin's Daughter has my seal of approval! 🥇😄
