Summary:

In this book, we get the different version of The 3 Little Pigs story. It is told from the point of view of the Big Bad Wolf, who is also known as Alexander T. Wolf. In his version of the story, Alexander was just trying to borrow a cup of sugar so that he could bake a birthday cake for his grandmother. Unfortunately,  he was also fighting a nasty cold. While visiting the first 2 little pigs houses, his cold causes him to blow down the straw and stick house. After doing that, he finds both of the pigs dead and in order to not waste food, he decides to eat them! An altercation with the last pig leads to a ruckus that causes the cops to show up and thus leads to Alexander being framed as The Big Bad Wolf.

Evaluation and Comments:

The True Story Of The 3 Little Pigs is a great twist on the classic story of The 3 Little Pigs. The humor that Alexander T. Wolf brings to the story will definitely pique younger children's interest and they will in no time see The Big Bad Wolf as the true victim.

I would personally use this in my classroom because first of all, it provides a unique version of a classic folk tale which helps introduce the idea to students that many classic stories have different versions. You can read other versions of The 3 Little Pigs and then have the students find the similarities and differences among the stories. Along with that, it is a great book to help teach students about point-of-view and how the different view points of a character can drastically change a story. For example, in this story, the pigs are the villain compared to the original version in which the wolf is the villain. This thus could be a great lesson in teaching students to not make judgements until you hear all sides of the story.

In conclusion, The True Story Of The Three Little Pigs has my seal of approval! 🥇😄
