Evaluation and Comments:

The main thing that pops out in The Ice Cream Store is the detailed and breath-taking illustrations that accompany the poems. They help capture your attention and make you feel like you are apart of the story.

Another great aspect of this book is that the wide collection of poems give students plenty of options to read poetry and find the one that they like the best. Ranging from silly to relatable, the ideas behind each poem and the usage of rhyming makes it perfect for younger elementary students to understand and allows them to really use their imagination.

When teaching a poetry unit, this is a great book to use in the classroom. The diversity of poems allows you to read one or two each day and then allow students to reflect about it, find which words rhyme, and what they feel about it. Then, the students can then go off and create their own poems coupled with some colorful illustration.

In conclusion, The Ice Cream Store has my seal of approval! 🥇😄
