Summary:

Marjorie felt down in the dumps because she didn't feel special. She felt rather ordinary compared to the other cows who are able to ride bicycles and do handstands. Hearing this, the chickens hatch a plan and the next morning, Marjorie lays an egg! Marjorie becomes popular causing the other cows to become jealous and doubt whether or not Marjorie really laid an egg. They wait all day for the egg to hatch and when it does and a baby chicken comes it, it releases the biggest moo ever and Marjorie names her baby cow Daisy.

Evaluation and Comments:

Now obviously, cows cannot lay eggs. However, the silly story of The Cow That Laid an Egg is a sweet story about how a cow who just felt ordinary was able to feel extraordinary with the help of some friends.

The simplicity of the book but strong message that it presents is a great story to read to children when teaching about friendships and in finding that one thing that makes you feel special. Children are bound to appreciate the message while also enjoying the pure silliness at the thought of a cow laying an egg.

Students can have discussions about their thoughts over the story: such as what is the impact friends have in finding out what makes you special? Also, what did you think about the ending of the book? Would you have changed it?

In conclusion, The Cow That Laid an Egg has my seal of approval! 🥇😄
