Summary:

One morning, Peter wakes up to a snowy day. After breakfast, he puts on his snowsuit and makes tracks in the snow, makes a snowman and snow angels, and slides down a mountain of snow. Before he goes inside his house, he puts a snowball in his pocket to save for tomorrow. However, just as he's right about to go to bed, he went to get the snowball out of his pocket only to find that it had melted. Lucky for him, the next morning, he finds that new snow was falling.

Evaluation and Comments:

As expected from a Caldecott winner, the simplistic illustrations does a great job in enhancing the story of Peter, a young boy who spends his day enjoying the snow day.

Given the short text and plot of the story, children will be able to easily understand and go along with the story and get to experience what a day enjoying the snow is like ( a thing us Houston people have little experience with).

An activity students can do is you can have them write down what they would do if they got to experience a snow day and then they can illustrate it. Another thing you can do is you can connect this book to science and have the students make snow with an instant snow kit.

In conclusion, The Snowy Day has my seal of approval! 🥇😄
